I’m a singer/song writer guitarist, initially inspired by Nicky Campbell and his BBC show ‘Into the Night’ when he celebrated John Lennon’s birthday with a Beatles’ night. In 2019, I entered the prestigious UK Songwriting contest for the first time and was thrilled to score 5/5 Commended for ‘Not the Only One’ (considered for the semi-finals). In May this year I released a new single, ‘Surfing on a Dream’ with a six song EP called ‘Shifting Sands of Reason.’ In August, I was nominated in the Male Solo category for the NMG Awards 2023, celebrating music in the East of England.
My back story: many years ago, I sustained a serious arm injury whilst practicing Bach’s Cello Suites in a guitar lesson which meant I had to give up guitar and concentrate on a career as a scientist. Eventually, after 15 years of osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists, I found someone to get me playing again. Since then, I've spent time honing the songwriting craft through courses, tuition and learning about Musical Theatre.
I’m a versatile songwriter influenced by a wide variety of musical genres. I constantly strive to reinvent myself to create different moods and textures using a wide palette of chords and musical instruments. Each song I write is distinctive in content and style and rich in melody, with thoughtful lyrics often having an underlying message. Don’t be surprised to hear influences from pop, rock, folk, country, funk and classical.
My new single, ‘Surfing on a Dream’ is out on 12 May. This song is part of a six song EP called ‘Shifting Sands of Reason’ released on Bandcamp the same day. I am also working on a Musical called ‘Where Loyalty Lies’.
