Some songwriters say the best way to improve songwriting is simply to write more songs. I agree...but you need to fully craft the songs you have. There is no harm in looking to improve the lyrics or rhyme scheme, trying to add a new section or re-structuring the song. Very often if you are stuck on a song, then put it in a drawer and come back to it in a few weeks time. The poet Paul Valery once said "A poem is never finished only abandoned." The same goes for songs. Fresh eyes often allow you to see a solution to a problem a lot quicker. Other advice is to make sure you try and write different types of songs with different structures. You will come across new challenges and improve your craft.
